Miss Shilpa!

It will be Bollywood’s loss if Shilpa Shetty moves lock, stock and barrel to London.

Yet to make her mark in the film industry here after her phenomenal success in the UK reality show Big Brother last year, Shilpa is being seen to be more and more involved in London-based events than anything in India.

The latest at a primary school in London, was a global initiative this week to make a difference to generation next and raise the morale of young people all over the world.

It saw Shilpa using her iconic status to advantage and join forces with the likes of Desperate Housewives actress Andrea Bowen, T4’s Miquita Oliver, Blue Peter’s Zoe Salmon and ex-Atomic Kitten Liz McClarnon. They have all conducted similar workshops in various schools across Britain.

Facilitating a discussion about personality development with a class of youngsters in the age group of 11 to 14, Shilpa said, “There have been moments in my career where I have struggled with self-esteem, so I’m really pleased to be doing this workshop. As a person in the public eye, I understand the important role I can play in making a difference to the way young people feel about themselves.”

She also educated them on a wider definition of beauty and the reality behind the images of beauty they see in the media.

Shilpa Shetty rubs shoulders with Hollywood celebs

Bollywood diva Shilpa Shetty shared ramp space with filmmaker Sofia Coppola, actress Maggie Gyllenhaal and American burlesque star Dita Von Teese in Paris as she represented Louis Vuitton for a show put up by American designer Mark Jacobs.

"I've been closely associated with this brand for some time now. And much as I had decided to stay in Mumbai for a few months to put my film production plans in place, there was no way I could get away from this engagement...and you know what? I don't regret it one bit. Paris is exhilarating any time. And more so now when the company is so exciting," said Shilpa told IANS.

Shilpa says she loved Sofia, Maggie and Dita's enthusiasm for India when she met them at the fashion show last week.

"When I come abroad, I feel a tangible change in the attitude to our country. If I've been even a tiny part of that change, I feel good.

"What I can't come to terms with is the different ways of greeting in different parts of Europe. In Brussels, you've to plant three kisses, while elsewhere it's just two. It's very difficult to keep track of how many kisses is correct in which city. Maybe, I should maintain a 'cheek' list."

But not before declaring, "I long to get back home. I've been travelling so much, I think home-sickness was invented for me."

Paris suddenly seems to have become a haunting ground of sorts for Bollywood. Sanjay Leela Bhansali, whose opera Padmavati goes on stage this week, is currently enjoying a Parisian spring in life.

If all had gone well, Priyanka Chopra would have been in Paris for the Fashion Week shooting for Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion, which drew to a close earlier this week.

Shilpa's biography is unauthorised

The "biography" of Shilpa Shetty, which is doing roaring business in Britain and has hit Indian shores this week, is actually an unauthorised book, says the publicist of the actress Dale Bhagwagar.

"Shilpa has not spoken about her life to its author Julie Aspinall," Bhagwagar revealed.

Apparently, the Life In A... Metro star's quotes used in the Shilpa: The Biography are borrowed from various magazine and television interviews, her publicist said.

Also, the book is incorrectly termed "biography" as it misses out chronicling most aspects of her life and career, except for giving liberal accounts of her past relationship with Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, who co-starred with her in hits like Khiladi and Dhadkan and her participation in Britain's reality show Celebrity Big Brother, which she won.

Bhagwagar said, "The book concentrates on the happenings during and after Celebrity Big Brother and on Shilpa's iconic rise to fame followed by the transition from an actress to a diva".

Is Shilpa expected to release an authorised account of her life in the near future?

"Since last year, a new exciting phase has materialised for brand Shilpa Shetty. The market is huge and spread over countries, but Shilpa has many more miles to cover before picking up the pen," Bhagwagar said.

"Posterity isn't on her mind right now. What she is concentrating on is selecting her next character from varied scripts she has been receiving almost every week," he added.

Shilpa, who was seen in last year's two hits Apne and Life in a... Metro and toured Europe with her musical play Miss Bollywood, is currently working in the Sunny Deol starrer, The Man.
